Getting Started with Trend Following Trades

This is a Subscription, Lifetime or Lifetime upgrade from Subscription service whose goal is to allow traders to be confident enough in the system/methodology, trade plan filters, and performance, to take live trades and profit from them.  Please watch the video below this paragraph, before going any further.  It's the reality, based on our own experiences as well as that of many successful Traders, that developing Traders NEED to understand and accept.  WARNING - This IS NOT an easy video to watch.  If you feel that you don't need to follow the path laid out in the video, please let us know and we will discuss what your expectations are from Trading as well as the time and effort that you are willing to spend to take full advantage of our service/support, method and indicators.

The actual PowerPoint presentation can be downloaded here ------> Reasons Why 95% of Traders Fail

Traders should focus on a couple of markets, or as many as their ability and hardware set up will allow. They should only trade a set up that has complete permission, apply their filter rule set, and if all is OK, have enough confidence to take the trade and manage it according to their preference of money management styles defined in their Trade Plan.

Below the Download and Quick Start guide is a Trade Plan that has been designed to perform well in all types of market conditions, throughout different market Instruments and time frames (of course past performance is NOT indicative of future performance).

Downloading Indicators and Installing Them

Please listen to the below video, and/or follow the written instructions, BEFORE importing any files into NT7.  It is important that you follow the directions EXACTLY as explained, shutting down and restarting NT7  between steps, as described.

NT7 TFT Template/Indicator Pack Install Guide

*** New subscriber of TFT Trend System - instructions for NT7 install:

1) Download and save this TFT Level Three .zip file (Note where you save this file) -------->

2) Download and save this TFT Wicked file (Note where you save this file) -------->Wicked

3) Shutdown and restart NT7

4) In NT7:  'File' > 'Utilities' > 'Import NinjaScript' (point to the directory where the TFT Level Three .zip file was saved).

5) A message should come up that Import was successful.  Acknowledge any "OK" boxes that may appear with this message

6) Repeat this with the Wicked file also.

7) In NT7:  'File' > 'Exit' > [Save Workspace] > 'Yes to All'

8) Exit NT7 and click on "Yes to All"

9) Unzip (via windows) this .ZIP file and save the contained XML files (Chart Template Files) to Computer > Documents > NinjaTrader7 > Templates > Chart folder ----->TFT Chart Templates 04212013

DO NOT try and import this .Zip file via the NT7 File > Utilities >  Import utility !!!!!!!

10) Create a new 3 and 4 Wicked Renko YM, 4 and 5 Wicked Renko CL, 4 and 5 Wicked Renko GC, 2 and 3 Wicked Renko ES, 3 and 4 Wicked Renko TF, 4 and 5 Wicked Renko NQ or 3 and 4 Wicked Renko 6E chart or take an existing chart, then right click on that chart and go to 'Templates' > 'Load ' > select the appropriate template for the chart that you are looking to build with TFT Tools.  Please make sure that your session Template under "Data Series" is set to "Default 24/7".  This will help to insure that your charts are identical to ours.  We see very little difference, between Data Feeds and Executions when using either ZenFire or CQG feeds.

---------> The Indicators will automatically extract themselves onto the chart.

The above XML Chart Template Files are recommended "Fast and Main Timeframe" charts for the YM, CL, GC, ES, TF, NQ and 6E.  The  TFT_Level3_Wicked and the TFT_Level3_Bricked can be used as examples for building other charts.  The TFT_Level3_Bricked Chart Template File is an example file ONLY to be used with Renko Bars with NO wicks!  The Alerts, on these charts, are Triggered when the Renko Bars Close inside the "Value Zone" and Actual System entry price is at the open of these Triggered Alert Bars (waiting for price to come back to that level).

For different instruments, the items that need to be changed are the chop zone settings  in the TFT MOMO Indicator and the last "Turn" and "Flip" Trades Momo Threshold Lower and Momo Threshold upper values that need to be set to the same chop zone settings.  These chop zone settings should be set to match the values for that Instrument listed below theses instructions.  This will add yellow squares to Trades that trigger inside the chop zone.

TFT Recommended Trading Plan for New Subscribers - Using Early Entries

[features_box_light_green width="100%" + border="2px"]

This is a subscription service whose goal is to allow traders to be confident enough in the system/methodology, trade plan filters, and performance, to take live trades and profit from them.

Traders should focus on a couple of markets, or as many as their ability and hardware set up will allow. They should only trade a set up that has complete permission, apply the filter rule set, and if all is OK, have enough confidence to take the trade and manage it according to their preference of money management styles.

Training for this Trade Plan

There are Videos Posted in the Members area of the website that explain many of the Entries, exits and filters applied to this Plan.  It is a GREAT starting point to learn how the system/methodology works best.  I strongly encourage that ALL members, regardless of Trading experience, use this Trade Plan if they are new to the TFT service and/or aren't having the success that they would like.

Video #1 System overview showing how all should be set-up as well as Early Entry Examples

Keep it simple, don't overtrade. don't under trade and most importantly DO NOT risk more than a few percent of your Trading account on any single Trade!  I recommend that you have daily profit targets and stops (30-50 ticks per contract).

Guidelines for Finding and Taking Trade Setups

Chart Time Frames

Look at 2 time frame charts for trading set up alignment - i.e. CL 4 and 5 Wicked Renko, GC 4 and 5 Wicked Renko, YM 3 and 4 Wicked Renko, etc.

Video #2 Showing Complete Alignment between Fast and Main time frames as well as TFT MOMO alignment only

Frequency of Trades

This plan talks about 2 set ups that occur often a few times a day in many markets that are tradable.  We will discuss Set-up #1 (used in "Transition MOMO" Trades as well as "Trend Continuation" Trades) on most of these Trade Plan Videos.

Set Up # 1 – Turn or Flip Confirmed, Out of Chop Zone (discussed in Videos above)

MOMO Indicator (discussed in Videos above and below)

Look at the MOMO indicator – must start out of the chop zone and in the direction of the intended trade on either time frame chart and if the longer time frame chart has MOMO in the right direction, but not outside the chop zone, then the trade can be taken on a smaller time frame chart, if MOMO IS outside the chop zone.  If the longer time frame chart is trading inside the value zone (in between stop dots and trigger line) then wait for the trade set-up on the longer time frame chart (ignore the smaller time frame chart).  TFT MOMO transitions from Buy to Sell are the best start points for Shorts and transitions from Sell to Buy, for longs.

Market Structure (discussed in Videos above and below)

All trades should  be taken with either a previous HH and HL for Longs and a LL and LH for Shorts.  If the anticipated Trade will form a HL (for longs) or LH (for shorts), after it triggers, then it qualifies.   Until this condition exists, you do not have permission to trade in that direction.  (on either time frame chart) If it exists on the smaller time frame chart only, then trades with applied filters can be taken using that chart.  There is a higher probability of success (to wait for all time frame charts to have market structure trade permission). The reason for taking these small time frame chart trades is because the probability is high enough to NOT completely ignore the trade set-up.  It also may be the only way that you can get into a run that never pulls back into the value zone on the longer time frame chart.

Video #3 Using the Fast Time Frame Chart as a Stand Alone Trading Chart and as a Chart Used to Catch Swings that the Main Time Frame Chart May not Offer

Trade Execution

All trades will be taken at previous bar open price that closes at or within the "Value Area", when using either Renko or Wicked Renko Bars (we recommend Wicked Renko Bars).  A STOP/LIMIT OR STOP/MARKET order can be placed at this very easy to identify, bar opening price (see EARLY ENTRY VIDEO), in the direction of the imminent trade signal.  See section below on how to utilize left side support and resistance, when markets are moving in a "horizontal" fashion.  If a market is "running away", at least wait for price to trade inside the value area (look at smaller time frames if necessary).  Under these circumstances, consider taking these Trades, at the opening price of the prior bar, as described above.  It's important that trades be taken, with left side "room" to target.  Trades taken "late" in any swing, always have less chance of success.

Video #4 Showing NT7 Chart Trader Entry, Target and Trail as well as explaining Trading "Room"

Left Side Price Support and Resistance

All trade set ups have a much higher degree of success if they start with a reject of "near" left support or resistance.  All trades taken into left side support or resistance have less of a probability of reaching their target if it is past this area of support or resistance.  These two factors are important components when considering taking any trade and when managing in trade targets and stops (i.e. a trade is taken into resistance, it hits that area, Traders Choice – move stop to breakeven or take profit at that area).  Also, when price is moving in a horizontal fashion, its best to wait for price to "pull back" to those areas, before considering entering a Trade as described above.

Video #5 Showing Support and Resistance and how it can help you in Using them for both at Trade and in Trade Management

The goal is to have a 2:1 or greater average in trade risk to reward ratio.  If market has no follow through in movement, either consider taking profit at DT' and DB's (natural S/R areas) OR moving stop to B/E.  This is the “key” mathematical and real time decision making FACTS that distinguishes Traders from Gamblers.

Vide0 #6 Mathematical Facts on 2:1 reward to risk and Traders choice for profit OR risk removal at Support/Resistance is what distinguishes Traders from Gamblers

Post Video on 2:1 Math on coin flip example and Trader decision making at support and resistance

Trade Filters

- NO trades will be taken into near left side divergence of MOMO, unless it qualifies as a Triple break set-up AND/OR Hidden Divergence is present in the direction of the intended Trade

Video #7 Standard and Hidden Divergence and How They're Applied

- NO Trades will be taken into Reverse Divergence, under most circumstances, unless a CLEAR area of left side support or resistance is being rejected

Video #8 Reverse Divergence and when it's "OK" to Trade into it

- Any market swing indicators (whether mental or chart applied) SHOULD have the most recent swing top or bottom as a HH and HL for Longs and or LL and LH for shorts, in order for trade permission to be granted.  When Market structure isn't so easy to distinguish, then a couple of LH's for shorts and HL's for longs is all that may be needed to take trades.  PLEASE understand that when market structure is in a state of "confusion"  and isn't clear, these are NOT the best conditions to be taking Trend Following Trades.  NOTE: The exception to this rule is trading into a DT/DB looking for a triple break ( see DT/DB triple break example video).

Video #9 Explaining Market Structure

- Trades taken into clear areas of support or resistance with no room to at least manage a reverse Renko bar to breakeven, won't be taken (again, exception is trading into a DT/DB looking for a triple break).

Video #10 Explaining Trading with Room to Target and Some Different Looks and Ideas at what to do at Areas of Support and Resistance

Video #11 Explaining How to Approach Trade "Room" Near Days Highs and Lows and at All Time Highs and Lows

- Consider NOT taking trades after an extended market move, where either you are trailing the close above or below stop dots or a nice initial set up has occurred and targeted in the swing. Most of the time these extended moves will show up on the MOMO indicator as being above the normal range where trade executions usually occur.  This is a discretionary decision that each trader needs to make based on other factors (i.e. No reject component, no room to major support or resistance etc.).  "Secondary" Trades, in the same swing, have a lower percentage of success.

Video #12 Taking Add-on Trades when a Trailer is Still On, as well as Reentering the Swing as a Target Trader

Money Management

- When entering Trades described above, a 2 brick stop and 4 Brick Target should be used.  The stop may be adjusted by a few ticks to just above or below stop dots OR near left side S/R.

- Once the trade reaches a clear area of support or resistance, the STOP will be moved to B/E or profit at these areas will be taken.  This “filter”  should be monitored closely and adjusted according to consistent, repetitive back test results.

- Once a trade goes 3 bricks (75% of Target), STOP will be moved to B/E

- Target is 4 bricks ( which will give an average of 2:1 to 3:1 in trade reward to risk ratio).  In tight range markets, 3 bricks may be taken as an exit because of market conditions (limited range with no follow through).

- Approaching double tops and double bottoms (DT/DB), especially with divergence and against overall swing direction automatically become major support and resistance for in trade management.

- Daily Stop Losses and Profit Targets will be between 30 and 50 ticks per contract traded, depending on market conditions

Video #13 Explaining the Difference in Daily Targets per Contract, Between 1, 2 and 3 Lot Traders

- Once profit is taken, most Trades will be “mentally” trailed out until price closes above or below the stop “dots”.

- Once the right to trade 3 contracts has been earned (5K per contract or more), then an actual trailer will be implemented, having taken 2/3 of the position off at the Target Area.

Set Up # 2 – Turn or Flip NON Confirmed, Inside Chop Zone

For the most part, it is the same as Set Up # 1 with the following changes:

-       Trades can be taken with MOMO inside the chop zone, at or near the "zero line", on the Main Time Frame Chart

-       A smooth Transition in MOMO from Buy to Sell or Sell to Buy, must either have already occurred OR is not yet on the correct side of the intended Trade, but  is moving towards the “zero line” in a smooth fashion

-       The Fast Time Frame Chart MUST start outside the chop zone

-       Divergence or Reverse Divergence OR S/R reject SHOULD exist from the prior opposite move as a “Start Point” of this Trade

-       Trades will be executed and managed the same way as Set Up #1, using the Fast Time Frame Chart's "brick" size as stops and targets
